GRE作文的寫作結構：

In surveys Mason City residents rank water sports(swimming,boating,and fishing)among their favorite recreational activities. The Mason River flowing through the city is rarely used for these pursuits, however,and the city park department devotes little of its budget to maintaining riverside recreational facilities. For years there have been complaints from residents about the quality of the river's water and the river's smell. In response, the state has recently announced plans to clean up Mason River. Use of the river for water sports is,therefore,sure to increase.The city government should for that reason devote more money in this year's budget to reverside recreational facilities.

這個題目應該算基礎類了，首先找結論，然后依次去看指出原因或者前提，再倒上去分析。

這題作者的結論就是：The city government should for that reason devote more money in this year's budget to reverside recreational facilities.

得出這個結論是基于這樣幾個前提：

前提1：居民更喜歡水上運動，證據：Survey

前提2：河水利用率低是由于水質問題，證據：居民的抱怨

前提3：river usage is sure to increase，因為do the river clean up

從新GRE寫作范文來看，整篇文章結構明朗，每段結構也很清晰。傳統的5段式，3個反駁點。

首段：While it may be true that the Mason City government ought to devote more money to riverside recreational facilities, this author's argument does not make a cogent case for increased resources based on river use.指出結論以及作者的文章邏輯證明存在問題，沒有其它多余的廢話。

第二段:Citing surveys of city residents, the author reports city resident's love of water sports先寫作者如何認為，然后寫自己的反駁，質疑Survey的準確性，加舉例，連用了自己的3個假設進行反駁。較后還加上覺得怎樣才算好的論證。

第三段：Additionally, the author implies that residents do not use the river for swimming,boating,and fishing,despite their professed interest,because the water is polluted and smelly.也是先寫作者觀點(包括他文中的隱含意思或前提);接著自己的反駁+進一步展開;較后能加上認為可行的論證建議是較好的了，這樣不會一味批判到底，段內結構更完整。

第四段：Building upon the implication that residents do not use the river due to the quality of the river's water and the smell, the author suggests that a river clean up will result in increased river usage.上一段先批他前提2有問題，再表示即使前提2對，前提3也有問題，這樣就是邏輯結構更好。

分了If the river's water quality and smell result from problems which can be cleaned, this may be true和If the quality and aroma results from the natural mineral deposits in the water or surrounding rock,this may not be true.結構相當緊密完整;較后一句再次強調作者的論證問題。

結尾：和開頭呼應，強調結論可能正確，作者的論證有問題(paraphrase)

所以，發現結論、前提(包括隱含前提)、證據和理出作者的寫作思路很重要很重要，其中隱含的意思也要能夠讀懂。對主結論的把握、(小)結論的辨識也要弄明白。
